This year we began Yap's first artists coop. Every Monday and Friday from 5pm to 7pm, we provide space to our local artists to come and show case some of their creative work. Our guests as well as guests from other hotels get the chance to meet with the artists and see first hand how some of the intricate art work is done on island. You can purchase any of the crafts directly from the artists or put in your order for something unique for yourself. They sell anything from wood carvings, lava lava (sorangs), necklaces, braclets, ear rings, baskets, story boards, and much much more. Stop by the restaurant on Mondays and Fridays  from 5pm to 7pm and meet Yap's local artists.

Also this year we started on our waste managment program. We are now researching and developing ways in recycling glass bottles. We still need help on this so by all means if you have some input we'll be glad to hear from you. The glass is crushed finely for use in making concrete blocks. These blocks are used in the walls of our kitchen, retaining walls, and other projects. We are not getting enough glass for now, but we are asking the other hotels to give us their empty or broken glass instead of throwing them away. If our communities need blocks, we hope to supply them with blocks that are made of concrete and crushed glass.

Finally, our small organic garden which is now producing for our kitchen is doing well. A compost bin we made utilizes the scraps from the kitchen to make natural fertilizer for the garden. Banana's, pinapple, papaya's, land taro, topioca, are some of the plants we have today. Here is a picture Tere one of our housekeepers checking on her sweet potatoes.
